Together we’re building prosperity for the future
Don't just bank. Prosper.
Building on more than 70 years as a BC credit union, Prospera is proud to serve a membership that is 63,000 strong. As a values-based financial institution, our number one priority is the financial well-being of families and businesses in our local communities and our dedicated team is here to serve all of their banking, lending, investing and insurance needs through sixteen branches; online and mobile banking and an alternative channel that includes a locally-based Contact Centre and Broker Centre. Through our affiliation with The Exchange network, members also enjoy access to thousands of surcharge free ATMs across Canada (that’s right, no ATM fees). Making life better for everyone is important at Prospera, which has an extensive community investment program devoted to supporting the organizations, events and volunteers that make our BC communities stronger.
We are the trusted home for families and local businesses, building their financial dreams and prosperity within our communities. We are transforming the way we do business to grow Prosperity.
At Prospera, we have a strategic imperative to grow a strong, sustainable credit union to ensure that we continue to make a meaningful difference in the financial well-being of our members; which in turn will support and strengthen the financial, social and economic resiliency of people in our local BC communities.
Everything we do at Prospera is based on our values of accountability, focus, teamwork, integrity, passion, member first and community. In alignment with the co-operative principles that are at the heart of our credit union, these are the values that guide us every day.
What it means to be a co-operative
Financial co-operatives like Prospera Credit Union are different from banks in a number of ways, the most important being that we are owned by the members we serve and because we are a co-operative, every member has a vote and a say in important decisions that affect our future.
Prospera puts its values into practice using seven co-operative principles:
- Voluntary and Open membership
As a co-operative enterprise, Prospera is a voluntary organization, open to everyone without discrimination.
- Democratic Member Control
Prospera is a democratic organization controlled by its members, who actively participate in setting policies and making decisions on the principle of one member, one vote. All of the men and women serving as elected representatives are accountable to the membership.
- Member Economic Participation
Prospera’s members contribute to and democratically control the capital of their co-operative and decide how profits are used. As a BC-based co-operative, Prospera provides jobs for local residents and invests in the communities it serves.
- Autonomy and Independence
Prospera is an autonomous organization controlled by its members who play an important role in the governance of the credit union through the democratic election of the Board of Directors.
- Education, Training and Information
Prospera endeavors to inform and empower members, employees, elected representatives and the public through education, training and timely communications. We share information through our website, Facebook and Twitter pages, press releases, one-on-one in our branches and through our contact centre and by participating in educational programs within the community such as Junior Achievement and Each 1 Teach 1.
- Co-operation among Co-operatives
Prospera serves members and strengthens the co-operative movement by working in solidarity with other co-operatives and national, regional and international co-operative organizations.
- Concern for Community
At Prospera, we invest our time and money back into the communities where our members are because we want to ensure that we consistently do the right thing for our members, our communities and our business. As a team, we also have a strong volunteer culture and enjoy the opportunity to build relationships and help make life better for everyone in our communities.
