Prospera and Westminster Savings Foundation contribute over $700,000 in 2020

Prospera Credit Union and the Westminster Savings Foundation invested in communities across Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Okanagan regions in 2020.

Surrey BC, November 26, 2020:
Prospera Credit Union and the Westminster Savings Foundation invested over $700,000 to improve the wellbeing of local communities and create opportunities for families facing financial barriers throughout the Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, and Okanagan regions in 2020. These sponsorships supported numerous organizations including Junior Achievement BC, Kelowna United Football Club, United Way, Easter Seals BC and the Chilliwack Hospice Society.

With a focus on educational programs, health care and families facing financial barriers, Prospera strives to make these communities a healthier and more inclusive place to live. “The programs funded through the foundation support families in need across all of the communities we serve. We are very passionate about supporting the important arts and active living programs as well as programs focused on supporting those most vulnerable in our communities”, says Maury Kask, President of the Westminster Savings Foundation.

This year, the Westminster Savings Foundation distributed more than $330,000 in grants to a variety of nonprofit organizations. Three major grants were provided to KidSport BC, Arts Umbrella, and Special Olympics BC, each of which received $75,000 to support their arts and active living programs and activities during the pandemic.

“What I like about Special Olympics is that I am always making new friends, improving my athletic skills, keeping fit, and staying healthy. But most of all, I feel like I belong. Special Olympics has allowed me to show people my abilities, not my disabilities” - Jonathan Lawson, athlete

Prospera is proud of all our partners who adjusted their programs and resources to continue offering value for our local communities throughout the pandemic.

Prospera Credit Union announces recognition program for essential branch staff

Prospera Credit Union announces #GIVINGCREDIT Program to provide recognition for frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Surrey BC, November 23, 2020:
In a tumultuous year, a little appreciation goes a long way in the workplace, and Prospera Credit Union is highlighting 75 of their branch employees during a month-long recognition program called #GIVINGCREDIT.

The COVID-19 pandemic shone a light on the jobs that keep our society functioning in a crisis – the doctors, nurses, grocery store clerks, gas station attendants and financial services. Prospera branch employees supported members during the onset of the pandemic, and continue to do so every day, despite the uncertainty of the current climate.

For TJ Schmaltz, Chief Legal & People Officer at Prospera, the challenges faced by branch staff haven’t gone unnoticed. “Our branch staff work tirelessly to support our members and adapted quickly to safety protocols and our “new normal” all while juggling COVID-19 concerns, increased childcare demands due to homeschooling and adjustments we’ve all made to ensure our safety during this pandemic.”

Winners of the #GIVINGCREDIT campaign were nominated for their efforts during the beginning of the pandemic, when several Prospera and Westminster Savings branches were closed due to Provincial restrictions. These employees stepped up to the challenge by relocating to work at open branches and the Member Service Centre while supporting members during a very challenging time.

One of the recipients of the #GIVINGCREDIT awards was Colton Cheney, branch manager at the Penticton Prospera Branch, who says “I was very happy to find out that I was recognized through our Giving Credit campaign. It means a lot considering the challenging year that we have all faced with the pandemic, in addition to the merger. I am thankful for the great people that I work with at Prospera Credit Union and appreciate the support we receive from our leadership team.”

Each nominee received a gift card for their efforts and was spotlighted to all staff and on social media. Learn more about their stories from the people who nominated them at prospera.ca.
