Prospera Credit Union donates N95 masks to support BC’s front-line health care workers

Surrey, BC – May 8, 2020

Recognizing the ongoing shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for front-line health care workers, Prospera Credit Union dug into its emergency supplies and found almost 900 N95 masks, all of which it is donating to the Provincial Health Services Authority for use by BC’s front-line health care staff. As the health care system battles the threat of COVID-19, the need for PPE on the front line continues to grow, and Prospera wants to support the efforts of health care workers wherever it can.

"Many people are performing important work during these challenging times, including our own incredible staff. Health care workers in particular are working on the front line under extremely difficult conditions to save the lives of British Columbians and keep our communities healthy,” says Gavin Toy, President and CEO of Prospera Credit Union. “On behalf of our staff and our members, I offer heartfelt thanks to health care workers for their service to the people of British Columbia. We understand that N95 masks are one of the most urgently needed items, and we trust that this donation will help keep health care staff safe as they work tirelessly to combat the pandemic.”

Prospera’s donation was made to the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) via the BC government’s COVID-19 Supply Hub, an online portal for donations of medical supplies from BC businesses in support of health authorities and workers on the front lines. The PHSA allocates donations of PPE to health authorities across the province based on where the need is greatest.

Prospera Credit Union merged with Westminster Savings Credit Union this year to create BC’s third-largest credit union, with 120,000 members and 29 branches in the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and the Okanagan.
