Newly merged Prospera Credit Union – Canada’s sixth-largest – marks first day of business today

Surrey, BC – January 2, 2020

Was the first day of business for Prospera Credit Union, now Canada’s sixth-largest credit union following a successful merger with Westminster Savings Credit Union. The merger is the largest credit union merger in Canadian history.

Approved by members in November, the credit union has over $9.0 billion in assets under management, 120,000 members, 900 employees and 29 branches. “We’re excited for this opportunity to have the scale and resources to make significant investments in the products and services our members want and expect from their financial institutions,” says Gavin Toy, President & CEO. “Both credit unions have deep histories and we plan to build on these 75-year legacies to provide an exceptional experience for our members and enhanced support for the communities we serve.”

“To minimize disruption, members will see very few changes in their day-to-day banking for a number of months. Developing a new brand for Prospera will take time to complete, so for now, members will continue to see the familiar blue Westminster Savings and yellow Prospera colours and logos,” says Chief Marketing Officer Maury Kask. “We’re excited at the opportunity to create a new credit union brand for our members and customers.”

Members can access the same services including online banking, mobile apps, contact centres and an extended branch network from Vancouver, through the Lower Mainland and to the Okanagan. For now, members can only conduct business at their legacy credit union branches.
