Prospera business members attract new customers with Alipay and WeChat Pay

Abbotsford, BC, June 13, 2019

Prospera Credit Union is excited to announce a new way for business members to accept payments from a growing customer segment. Through our unique partnership with Everlink, Prospera is the first credit union in Canada to offer business members the ability to accept payments from Chinese customers through the Alipay and WeChat Pay platforms.

These platforms, popular in China, are growing in popularity in Canada due to Chinese immigrants and tourists. They give Prospera’s business members access to what may have been a previously untapped customer segment.

Prospera’s merchant services partner, Everlink, has a Merchant Acquiring Program that is different from the traditional merchant service providers we see in the market today. Everlink’s unique approach gives Prospera business members access to a variety of payment acceptance solutions like Square Inc., Chase Paymentech, and now Alipay and WeChat Pay, both brought into the Canadian market by Everlink’s partner, MotionPay.

Alipay and WeChat Pay are apps that enable payments (among other things) and are Chinese consumers’ preferred payment method. “Each year, Chinese consumers spend more than $35 billion in Canada and 93% have stated that they would spend more if mobile payments such as AliPay & WeChat Pay were available to them. With this tremendous strength in retail purchasing power, we are thrilled to have AliPay & WeChat Pay as part of our MAP Program portfolio” said Mark Ripplinger, President & CEO at Everlink.

“Local businesses are the engine of our economy, when they thrive our communities thrive. Adding AliPay and WeChat Pay to the portfolio of payment solutions Prospera provides to its business members will provide Chinese consumers with a fast, simple, and cost-effective payment transaction option and Prospera’s business members with access to a growing consumer base.” said Ed Michielsen, Vice President, Business Banking at Prospera.

Alipay and WeChat Pay is simple to set up and features:
  • Portable smart POS terminal
  • QR sticker
  • E-mail payments
  • Online payments
  • POS system integration
