Prospera Credit Union Partners with Kelowna United

Abbotsford, BC, February 11, 2019

Prospera Credit Union is excited to announce a five year partnership with Kelowna United Football Club. A credit union serving British Columbia for more than 75 years, Prospera strives for the well-being of families and businesses in our local communities. Financial, physical and mental health are some of our top priorities. With the same mindset, the Kelowna United soccer team has a pioneering and innovative spirit. To them, it is about thinking of others, getting the details right and going above and beyond expectations.

Soccer is the largest participation sport in the Central Okanagan, with over 4500 youth soccer players engaged at various levels. Kelowna United FC is one of six clubs serving these players, and as the ‘development club’ within our region, we take a leadership role in developing programs, training coaches for all of the clubs and working provincially with BC Soccer to bring a solid foundation for development to the region.

“At Kelowna United FC, we are excited to embark on a partnership with an organization that shares our passion for making a difference in our community.” Said Kelowna United Football Club’s President, Scott Jacobsen. “Prospera Credit Union shares this passion, and has a proven track record of community involvement and engagement. Youth soccer is so much more than the game on the field. Through sport, our kids have fun, push themselves in training and competition, and along the way learn the value of teamwork, focus, hard work and much more. This partnership helps us to provide and expand opportunities for the youth in our community and we look forward to working on these goals with the great team of people at Prospera Credit Union.”

The Kelowna United Football Club is one of a select few clubs in the province to successfully build and operate two indoor soccer facilities. This has been extremely successful in terms of program, player and coach development, and has exceeded expectations operationally with demand exceeding capacity almost immediately after opening in 2014. We are poised to bring soccer development to another level in the region. Kelowna United has done this as a non-profit organization with an entirely volunteer Board of committed individuals with a passion for soccer and for giving back to the community. They also rely on volunteer parents and community members that contribute when called upon. From a civil and municipal perspective, they have developed strong relationships with community partners such as the City of Kelowna, School District 23, BC Soccer and the larger soccer community.

Current facilities include:
  • Access throughout the year by over 500 KUFC Club members - boys and girls teams from the U11 through U18 age groups.
  • Rentals for training access for other clubs in the Central Okanagan District.
  • Training and courses in the facility for coaches from across the Central Okanagan as well as the larger Thompson Okanagan area.
  • A large and diverse group of rental user groups including:
    • Men’s Soccer
    • Urban Rec recreational soccer.
    • Flag and Touch Football (adult and youth)
    • Rugby (adult and youth)
    • Baseball
    • Field Hockey
    • UBC Okanagan (Men’s and Women’s Soccer)

“At Prospera, we believe that we prosper together and that is why it is so important for us to be involved in the communities in which we live, work and play.” said Prospera’s President and CEO, Shawn Good. “Over 15 years ago, Prospera extended its operations to serve the Okanagan community. In the many years since, we have put down roots, built strong relationships and are thrilled to now be involved in the Kelowna sports community.”

This is Prospera’s first sponsorship with Kelowna United Football Club. Prospera is committed to making our communities healthier and stronger and soccer is a fantastic way to encourage youth to get outside and enjoy time with friends and family. Supporting our youth with their holistic well-being, goals and aspirations is how young leaders are born. The future depends on this younger generation. Look for us on the sidelines and at all Kelowna United events.

About Kelowna United Football Club Expand/Collapse

In 2004, Kelowna United grew out of COYSA to become the select wing under the guidance of newly hired technical director Andrew Latham. Our first year, 10 of 11 teams qualified for the provincial "A" cup, winning a gold and 3 silvers. Under the leadership of President Allan Myers in 2008, Kelowna United struck out on its own and became an official club, with Andrew Latham providing technical direction.

Kelowna United from its early beginnings has always strived to give youth soccer players a place to develop and grow. Kelowna United has placed great emphasis on coaching education and player development. The results are evident, as players have earned University scholarships, teams winning Provincial Championships and Kelowna United sending more players to the EA Sport Premier League than any other BC Interior club.

Prospera Launches Innovative Business Deposit Solution

Abbotsford, BC, February 1, 2019

Prospera Credit Union is pleased to announce the launch of a new electronic cheque deposit service for business members dubbed, “Advanced Business Deposit,” or ABD. This new service allows business members to remotely scan and deposit cheques without having to make a trip into the branch.

Before ABD, business members needed to make a trip down to their local branch to ensure their funds were being deposited in a timely manner. Trying to make it to a branch during business hours, while running a business can be a daunting task. Often, employers end up paying staff to prepare and deliver deposits on work time, which adds cost and risk to their business processes. “Cash flow is king for business owners, so anytime we can save them a step in the deposit process – it’s a big win,” said Ed Michielsen, Vice President, Business Banking.

Advanced Business Deposit is a hardware and software solution that enables members to use a cheque scanner to make their cheque deposits to their Prospera operating accounts in real time from their home or place of business. “We are excited to offer this new convenient service and really want to help our business members achieve success by providing a digital solution that will give them back time and allow them to focus on their business,” said Stacey Irwin, Senior Manager, Digital Banking.

A soft launch of Advanced Business Deposit started in Fall 2018 and the initial response from members has been incredible. “The feedback from all of our business members using the ABD service has been entirely positive. From the ease of the initial setup, to the convenience and simplicity of processing the deposits, the experience for all of them has been excellent and the value received through use of the service has been significant,” said Prospera’s Manager of Cash Management, Jim Brown.
