September 24

ABBOTSFORD, BC, September 24, 2018: British Columbia’s 2018 wildfire season is the second largest on record, ranking below only the summer of 2017. Across the province, more than 945,000 hectares of land has burned since the beginning of the wildfire season on April 1, forcing many evacuations in several communities, particularly in the central region of our province. The wildfire season is now over but those impacted are still feeling the effects of the disaster and Prospera is proud to lend support to the Canadian Red Cross efforts to aid those affected.

At the beginning of September, Prospera donated $10,000 to the relief efforts and is encouraging members who want to help to support the Red Cross as well.

“When disaster strikes, the Canadian Red Cross is there to provide immediate assistance with evacuation, housing, food and other emergency needs,” said Shawn Good, President & CEO of Prospera Credit Union. “With our province being in this state of emergency, we’re grateful for their quick response to help everyone get to safety.”

All donations help provide immediate relief such as cots, blankets, family reunification and financial assistance for food, clothing and personal needs. Beyond meeting immediate needs, donations may also help families get back into their homes and go towards more long-term recovery, resiliency and preparedness.

On behalf of Prospera, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation for your donation during these difficult moments.
