Prospera Credit Union Partners welcomes new board chair at AGM

Abbotsford, BC, May 22, 2018: Members and guests joined Prospera Credit Union online and in person for the financial institution’s Annual General Meeting at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium in Abbotsford, BC on April 19, 2018. In addition to reporting on financial results for 2017, the credit union welcomed incoming director Rod Thomson to the Board table as well as incumbent directors, Stacey Crawford and Angela Kaiser. The Board also thanked outgoing Board Chair, Stacey Crawford, for three years of strong leadership in the Boardroom. Following the AGM, the Board elected Eric Nadin as the incoming Board Chair, who had most recently been Vice Chair of the Board. Eric completed his ICD designation in 2015 and brings seven years of experience on Prospera’s Board to the role.

On the financial front, 2017 was Prospera’s strongest year ever in terms of earnings from normal operations. Both deposit and loan growth were strong, as was wealth portfolio growth. These strong results allowed the credit union to reach a milestone of assets under management of $4.46 billion.

“At Prospera, we recognize the mutual benefit that accompanies strong relationships with our members, as it helps us to support our individual members’ unique needs, wants and dreams while in turn strengthening the fabric of our credit union and our communities,” said Stacey Crawford, outgoing Board Chair. “Simply put, because we are a member-owned, local, community-based organization, member business and deposits are thoughtfully reinvested right back into our local communities, which means as we continue to grow so does our ability to nurture prosperity for everyone.”

Prospera’s AGM also featured a presentation by Angela Burnell, co-founder of the Bats for a Cause Tournament and Regional Director for Prospera in the Okanagan. Angela highlighted the impact Prospera’s support has had on the growth of the tournament over the past ten years, which has to date raised over half of a million dollars in support of the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, and grown from a small tournament of 12 teams to 26 in 2017.

“As a values-driven cooperative financial institution, community is a part of our DNA. In 2017, Prospera donated over $790,000 to our local communities and contributed over 5,500 hours in volunteer service,” said Shawn Good, President & CEO. “That time is equal to $111,795 being reinvested into our communities, totaling over $900,000 in community investment.
